Jet-like structures in low-mass binary neutron star merger remnants

Gr@v Seminars - Banner
Speaker
Milton Ruiz (University of Valencia)
Event date
Venue
On-site: Room TBD
Event type

GW170817 and GRB 170817A provided direct evidence that binary neutron star (NSNS) mergers can produce short gamma-ray bursts (sGRBs). However, questions remain about the nature of the central engine.

The optical appearance of some regular compact objects

Gr@v Seminars - Banner
Speaker
Mercè Guerrero (CIDMA, University of Aveiro)
Event date
Venue
On-site: Sala Sousa Pinto
Event type
The significance of multi-ring images in the optical appearance of spherically symmetric compact objects is discussed. Such images are produced by an optically and geometrically thin accretion disk illuminating the object.

Beyond the Concordance Model with galaxy cluster mass profiles

Gr@v Seminars - Banner
Speaker
Lorenzo Pizzuti (University of Milano-Biccoca)
Event date
Venue
On-site: Room TBD
Event type

Galaxy clusters are excellent natural laboratories to study the nature of gravity and test possible alternatives to the Concordance Model, at the edge between cosmology and astrophysics.

Numerical evolutions with the Kadath library: Application to the Schwarzschild black hole and Teukolsky gravitational waves

Numerical Relativity is a key tool for the study of strong-field gravity. I will present a new evolution code, based on the Kadath library. It relies on multidomain spectral methods for the space discretization, and explicit time integration schemes.
