"SKA days PT" took place last 6 and 7 of February, at Covilhã and Lisbon, an initiative to promote the Square Kilometer Array (SKA) - the world's largest radio telescope - among the Portuguese scientific and business communities.

SKA project has the participation of 19 countries, in the case of Portugal it is via the infrastructure ENGAGE SKA, which is a consortium composed by the Instituto de Telecomunicações, the Universities of Aveiro (Gr@v), Porto and Évora, and the Polytechnic Institute of Beja.

The fourth general assembley of the Portuguese Relativity and Gravitation Society (SPRG) ellected the following new officers: C. Herdeiro (president), J. Natário (vice-president), V. Cardoso (Treasurer), J. Lemos (General Assembley President), F. Mena (First Secretary), J. Costa (Second secretary). These officers appear in the above photograph presenting the 2017 Alberto Prize to M. Zilhão. The remaining officer is J. Rocha ("Fiscal Único").

Miguel Zilhão, a former PhD student at Gr@v, was the winner of the 2017 Portuguese Society on Relativity and Gravitation's (SPRG) Alberto prize. The prize was awarded on December 19th 2017, during the general assembly of the SPRG.

"90 seconds of Ciencia" is a daily programme of the National Public Radio, Antena 1. Hear in this link the contribution of Gr@v researchers to this excellent show that makes accessible to a larger audience the research made in Portugal, across all fields of knowledge.

For the second time C. Herdeiro was the guest interviewee of Porto Canal's "Mentes que Brilham". Gr@v member António P. Morais gave a talk at Escola Secundária José Régio in Vila do Conde with title "Do Infinitamente Grande ao Infinitamente Pequeno - uma jornada pelas interações fundamentais na natureza". António was an invited speaker to participate in a sequence of seminars entitled "A Biblioteca convida...", and presented to 11th and 12th grade Science and Technology students the four fundamental interactions in nature and how have they shaped our Universe.

Gr@v's Ph.D. student (in collaboration with IST-Lisbon) Pedro Cunha produced a short movie illustrating a voyage into a black hole, and in particular the lensing effects visualized by an observer undergoing such journey. The journalist Catarina Lázaro (voice) and Gr@v researcher C. Herdeiro (scientific advising) collaborated in the movie, which will have a premiere on December 3rd 2016 at "Observatório Geofísico e Astronómico da Universidade de Coimbra".

The European Space Agency (ESA) Advanced Concepts Team (ACT) has created a cool interactive webpage for visualization of the lensing due to a black hole, featuring black holes with scalar hair found by our group. Try it here! (Works better with the Chrome browser)
