I will discuss new degrees of freedom of gravity as motivated by string theory. Although they are expected to be generically quantum mechanical, classes of such states are coherent enough to admit classical descriptions in Einstein gravity. I will explain how to describe them as novel ultra-compact geometries without horizon or singularity.
In this seminar, we study and present constraints for two cosmological models based on non-metric theories of gravity, referred to as f(Q) gravity, using both current datasets and forecast Standard Siren events.
The first model is the most general f(Q) model that replicates a ΛCDM background, with deviatio
A call for a 2-year post-doctoral grant in Strong Gravity, within the research grant Gravitational waves, black holes, and fundamental physics, 2022.04560.PTDC, is open from 1 to 20 August 2023. See attached document for details or the Euraxess announcementhere.
The VIII International Meeting of "Casa das Ciências" took place at the University of Aveiro from 17-19 July 2023, with the participation of hundreds of teachers. C. Herdeiro was one of the invited speakers talking about black holes and gravitational waves, with the moderation of M. Zilhão.
On Saturday July 15, part of the group got together, with some younger reinforcements, to celebrate the summer and the ending of the academic year. The result was the least important. Great fun, followed by a tasty seaside lunch to replace (in excess!) the burnt calories.
Our group coordinated the "Numerical Relativity and High Energy Physics" IRSES network (2012-2015). Here is a list of the global network meetings organized:
