Gr@v is a team of researchers, based at the Mathematics and Physics Department of Aveiro University, Portugal, working on strong gravity and high energy physics. The group was established in 2010. In January 2015 Gr@v integrated the FCT funded CIDMA research unit (UIDB/04106/2020 and UIDP/04106/2020), as the Gravitational Geometry and Dynamics research group. In January 2025 colleagues from the U. Algarve joined CIDMA and the group.
The XVIII edition of the Black Holes Workshop will take place at the Instituto Superior Técnico, Lisbon, Portugal, on December 18-19, 2025.
As part of the celebrations marking 10 years of gravitational wave observations, the Aveiro outreach centre Fábrica presents the exhibition Traces of Curvature (Traços de curvatura). This artistic retrospective reflects on the scientific work in strong gravity carried out at the University of Aveiro, which now celebrates its 15th anniversary.
The 2015 Gr@v paper "Shadows of Kerr black holes with scalar hair", published in Physical Review Letters (making the cover of the publication issue), has reached 500 citations in the INSPIRE database.
The scientific community is celebrating the 10th anniversary of the first detection of gravitational waves. The outreach centre in Aveiro, Fábrica, will promote a one day event on Sunday, September 14th, in partnership with Gr@v. Check the programme here.

The 2025 summer school of the Portuguese Mathematics Society takes place in Mirandela. C. Herdeiro is one of the invited speakers.
The review by P. Cunha and C. Herdeiro on lensing and shadows, published as an Editor's choice in Gen. Rel. and Grav. in 2018 has attained over 500 citations in INSPIRE, showing the community interest on the topic.
One position for a BI grant for 3 months is open to join our group in CIDMA.
We ended the academic year 2024/25 in a medieval atmosphere, visiting the medieval fair in Santa Maria da Feira. Enjoy the holidays!
