Gr@v is a team of researchers, based at the Mathematics and Physics Department of Aveiro University, Portugal, working on strong gravity and high energy physics. The group was established in 2010. In January 2015 Gr@v integrated the FCT funded CIDMA research unit (UIDB/04106/2020 and UIDP/04106/2020), as the Gravitational Geometry and Dynamics research group. In January 2025 colleagues from the U. Algarve joined CIDMA and the group.
On January 20th, 2026, the art–science exhibition was officially (re)opened at Fábrica - Centro Ciência Viva de Aveiro. The event was hosted by Fábrica’s director, Pedro Pombo, and brought together the head of the Department of Mathematics, Alexandre Almeida, and the director of CIDMA, Delfim Torres, along with several colleagues. This initiative is another step in sharing the beauty of science with a broader audience, strengthening the connection between scientific research and society.
The Science and art exhibit "Traces of curvature" will reopen on January 20, 2026 at Fábrica, "Centro Ciência Viva", in Aveiro, and stay in exhibition for three months.
We kicked off 2026 with a get-together alongside collaborators Roman Pasechnik and Antonio Morais. A special highlight: the next generation joined in as well - future scientists already in the making!
The 10th anniversary of the Portuguese Society of Relativity and Gravitation (SPRG), along with the anniversary of the first gravitational wave (GW) detection, was celebrated with a specially made cake at the XVIII Black Holes Workshop.

C. Herdeiro is one of the lecturers in the Licán Ray meeting, Chile, on Black Hole Physics, at the end of January 2026.
Gr@v had the pleasure to host Zakaria Belkhadria (Université de Genève/Università degli Studi di Cagliari) who gave the group seminar on Dec 12th 2025.
Gr@v is welcoming expressions of interest for the 8th edition of the CEEC competition. This call will fund three-year postdoctoral research contracts, offered at two levels depending on the applicant’s experience. Interested researchers are invited to contact the group coordinator. Application deadline: 29 January 2026.
In the first week of December 2025 we had the pleasure of hosting Panagiotis Dorlis and Hendrik Mannenga, visiting from Athens and Oldenburg. Panagiotis gave an intersting seminar on How much gravitons can be squeezed. Many thanks for your visits!
